When I first tried Things 3, something clicked for me. I wrote about it in my initial review:
Keyboard shortcuts (CMD-S for subtasks and CMD-K for quick actions) will open the panel and highlight them. You can add new subtasks right away after the shortcut. Press the shortcut again to go back to main window (CMD-W if you want to close it while focused). It’ll stay where you put it and will re-open with the main window as you open the app.

It starts with Smart Lists, a feature that enables customizing your view based on factors like a task’s assigned list, date status, text contained in it, and much more. Smart Lists not only let you customize which tasks you see, they also enable specifying how those tasks are presented. Each Smart List can have its own sort options, view type, inclusion of calendars or not, and also a custom icon and color. If you have a lot of tasks to manage and need fine-grained controls for organizing those tasks, Smart Lists can be an essential aid.

Due delivers the ability to set simple reminders with lots of customization. Use it to create reusable countdown reminders for all your tasks, from kitchen chores to work-based activities. This is one of the features that makes Due stand out in this lineup.

Wunderlist is a great free task manager for the Mac. Here are a few more.

Knowing the syntax of the subtasks and realizing that it can be read by adding text to the note field, I can start opening up some automation possibilities. When I started looking into moving some things over, I quickly realized that I can simply use Drafts for trusted capture, just as I always have.
Setapp is a 3rd party service as you’re aware, separate from the App Store. We recently announced that we will be distributing our Mac app through Setapp. This model works well for the Mac, as developers like ourselves can distribute our apps as part of a single subscription service, offering other amazing apps. However, since 2Do is sold separately on each platform (as in-app purchase on iOS and Android) and do not demand an ongoing subscription, getting 2Do on the Mac via Setapp will unfortunately not automatically result in a free upgrade on other platforms.

Sync with Later’s iOS app and you can set Mac-only reminders to appear on your computer during your next work session. It’s available on the menu bar for easy access and is perfect for reminder app beginners.
